James W. Quinn

James W. Quinn is a trial lawyer, mediator, and arbitrator who spent more than four decades at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where he headed the Litigation Department and served on the firm's management committee. For decades he served as outside counsel to the players associations of the major professional sports leagues and litigated the landmark antitrust cases that brought free agency to professional sports, including Robertson v. NBA and McNeil v. NFL, which he tried as lead counsel. His commercial practice included a $417 million verdict for ExxonMobil, at the time the largest commercial verdict in Delaware history. The National Law Journal twice named him one of the ten best trial lawyers in the United States. After serving as of counsel at Berg & Androphy, he founded JW Quinn ADR and in 2026 joined the Signature Resolution panel of neutrals. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School, his alma mater.
