About
Nicholas Stephanopoulos is the Kirkland & Ellis Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and Director of Strategy of the Harvard Election Law Clinic. He is one of the country's leading scholars of election law, with a focus on redistricting, voting rights, and the structure of democracy. With political scientist Eric McGhee, he developed the "efficiency gap," a measure of partisan gerrymandering that became the centerpiece of Gill v. Whitford (2018), and he was deeply involved in both that case and Rucho v. Common Cause (2019). He is a co-founder of PlanScore and the author of Aligning Election Law (Oxford University Press, 2024). Before joining Harvard he taught at the University of Chicago Law School.
