Prof. Kate Shaw

Kate Shaw is a Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where her research focuses on executive power, the law of democracy, the Supreme Court, and reproductive rights and justice. She co-hosts the Supreme Court podcast Strict Scrutiny and is a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times. In 2025 she and her Strict Scrutiny co-hosts received the National Association of Women Lawyers' Arabella Babb Mansfield Award. She previously taught at Cardozo School of Law, where she co-directed the Floersheimer Center for Constitutional Democracy, and served as an attorney in the Obama White House Counsel's Office. She clerked for Justice John Paul Stevens of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Richard Posner of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
